Hearing Aid Evaluation

Austin Hearing Aid Center has audiologists who can help in hearing aid evaluation and selection in Austin, TX.

A diagnostic audiologic evaluation may be recommended for individuals who did not pass an initial hearing screening. If you have been referred for a diagnostic audiologic evaluation, it means that hearing needs to be further examined to rule out hearing loss.

The evaluation is conducted to determine if hearing loss is present, and if so, pinpoint the type and severity of hearing loss. Diagnostic audiologic evaluations may also provide insight into the cause and provide guidance for our audiologists in making appropriate treatment plans.

Hearing Aid Evaluation

If you suspect that you, a family member or friend might need hearing instruments to hear better, the first step is to have a hearing evaluation. Our audiologists at Austin Hearing Aid Center will perform the hearing evaluation starting with a case history to determine the impact of hearing in your daily life, including social and professional settings. Make sure to discuss pertinent information related to your hearing difficulties in your daily routine to help us come up with the most comprehensive evaluation and treatment plan.

The results from a hearing aid evaluation will provide our audiologists with an overview of what sounds you are hearing and what sounds you are missing. If the results of your hearing test reveals that you have a significant hearing loss, hearing aids may be recommended.

Our attending audiologist will review the results and discuss with you the results of the hearing evaluation along with the treatment options. Should you decide to get hearing aids, the audiologist will help you select the best hearing aids according to your degree of hearing loss and preferred style, features and level of technology.

Open-fit Technique

Most hearing aid fittings today are carried out using an open-fit technique. This allows the ear canals to remain open without any earmold in the ear. However, for patients who need earmolds, our audiologist can make ear impressions or ear scans for custom earmolds.

Real Ear Measurement

Real ear measurement (REM), also known as probe microphone measurements, is considered to be the gold standard to determine if a hearing aid user is receiving the correct level of amplification needed at every frequency to achieve the best hearing improvement possible.

45-day Trial Period

At Austin Hearing Aid Center, all hearing instrument fittings are covered by a 45-day trial period to give you time to adjust to the devices and ensure that you are 100% happy with the results.

Are real ear measurements necessary?

Every ear is unique and hearing loss is different for each individual. Real ear measurement is necessary to make sure that a person using hearing instruments is receiving the correct amplification across different frequencies according to the hearing prescription.

What can I expect from a hearing aid fitting?

During a hearing aid fitting, we will ensure that you get the needed amplification for your hearing prescription. Real ear measurement will also be performed using a thin tube that will be inserted into the ear canal.

How long does a hearing aid fitting take?

Hearing aid fittings usually take 45 to 90 minutes, depending on the type and model of hearing aid.
